Copyright Licenses

Ordnance Survey mapping is protected under Crown copyright by virtue of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Copying of mapping can be authorised under separate copyright licences depending upon the intended use.

Buying your mapping from us gives you the reassurance that you have been provided with reliable location based information in a wide variety of formats for your specific needs with licences to suit.

Maintaining an up-to-date licence is a legal requirement for use of Ordnance Survey data for all individuals and businesses. Not having the correct licence could invalidate your indemnity insurance and result in costly legal fees.

The Paper Map Copying Licence is available from us and enables unlimited copies of mapping to be made in paper or electronic form by a business or individual.

If you are unsure which licence to use you can find the right licence for you and compare the key features and benefits on the Ordnance Survey website

We recommend you also read the full features and terms of the licences to familiarise yourself with them; if you would like any information about Ordnance Survey licensing then please fill out the form on the ‘Contact Us‘ page or email
